Kids' Bible Handbook : Who, What, When, Where, Why?and What It All Means to You
Series: Kids' Guide to the Bible
Author: Tracy M. Sumner
Help your kids understand scripture’s big picture with Kids’ Bible Handbook. This fully-illustrated guide for 8-to-12-year-olds provides age-appropriate, faith-building details on the greatest Book of all! Featuring a Genesis through Revelation tour, Kids’ Bible Handbook breaks the 66 books down into memorable segments: “In the Beginning” (Genesis through Deuteronomy), “His Story and Their Story” (Joshua through Esther), “Wise Words to Live By” (Job through Song of Solomon), and so on. “How Did We Get This Book, Anyway?” describes the Bible’s history, while kid-friendly sidebars feature important verses, places, and applications. Intriguing trivia adds to the fun, and it’s all wrapped up in a bright, colorful package that kids will love.
I'm so excited about this book! I read it as a galley, and I can't wait to purchase some copies for my second grade Sunday School class. Sometimes, it is so difficult to make certain parts of the Bible accessible for this age group. This book does an excellent job of doing just that. The graphics and layout are eye-catching without being distracting. The break down of the Books makes it easy for a child (or an adult, for that matter) to relate things together. I also enjoyed the Bible trivia and the special verses pointed out for each Book as "Power Words." I plan on purchasing a book for myself to keep at home for my children and to help with lesson planning, as well as copies for my class to use during our Bible reading. I hope Sumner tackles some more Bible topics in future books- I'll be looking for them!
This is an externally helpful tool in introducing young children to the bible and breaking down the charters and subject matter in a way that is digestible for children under 12 and some adult also. Wonderful job T. Summer
Oh my goodness!! Wow! Have you ever wondered how to help your children transition from the little kids/toddlers version of the Bible to the bigger/teenagers Bible? Well, this book is the answer!
I am so impressed with all the information contained in this book. Not only is it broken into small sections for easy navigation, but it is also written in a way that kids will have no problem reading! I would recommend this book for kids at least 8 years and older. If you're a Sunday School teacher, you may be able to read it to 1st and 2nd graders to help give more insight into one of your lessons, but they probably won't be able to read it and understand all of it on their own.
The who, what, when, where are explained for each book of the Bible. So, very interesting! I even learned something new! There are many colorful illustrations throughout the book that kids will enjoy looking at. What I found most interesting though was the way the author introduced the last book of the Bible, Revelation. She explained why some consider it scary, why some think it already happened, and why some think it is still to come. Loved that!
But, that's not all! At the end of the book, the author also explains the "how to" part. She explains how to apply it to your life, how to study it, and the importance of memorizing your favorite verses. And then she also has a reading plan and some time-lines. Very impressive! I am so excited about this book, I've added it to my wishlist for the kids for Christmas. What a great way to help my children grow in understanding God's never ending love for us!
